ONIONS |
|
| |
|
Luis: These are onions?
Ilda: Yes exactly.
Luis: How do you plant onions?
Ilda: In rows, you dig holes to plant them.
Luis: But do you plant a tiny onion?
Ilda: Exactly.
Luis: And in which period of the year?
Ilda: Around January or February
Luis: And around March you can pick them, right?
Ilda: It depends, sometimes we have to wait longer to pick them. |

LETTICES |
|
| |
|
Ilda: First you put the lettice seeds in March into a small piece of land and you cover so the birds don't to eat the whole thing.
Luis: ....When they have grown 2 fingers you can plant them, right?
Ilda: More or less that. When each lettice has four leaves, you can plant them.
Luis: And when you plant them in the final place you can water them....
Ilda: But first must put manure on them. And if the field has weeds you must revolve the land a bit.
Luis: But how long do you have to wait until the lettices can be picked? One month?
Ilda: Yes, it’s possible.... But it is possible to have lettices throughout the year |

BEANS |
|
| |
 |
Luis: How do you plant beans?
Ilda: They are sown in rows as well.
Luis: And then you put the stick. Do you put the stick later?
Ilda: Yes later, when the bean plants have “arms”. Small arms to climb along the stick
Luis: And where do you get the plants?
Ilda: Do you mean the beans? I leave some beans for sowing.
Luis: Ah, I see. So it is a normal bean?
Ilda: Yes, exactly. I have a 5-litre bucket full of beans for sowing.
Luis: Ah, ok, so normal beans. And do you sow the beans during Springtime?
Ilda: Beans are sown around this time (May / June). Now is the best moment. |

CORN |
|
| |
 |
Luis: Corn is also sown like the others we saw before, right?
Ilda: Yes with corn kernels. Actually this year I bought the seeds on a farmer’s store. But they are expensive.
Luis: So, in this case you buy the kernels, so you don’t use last year’s ones, right?
Ilda: Yes, this year I bought legitimate kernels, because I used previous year’s kernels for two years.
Luis: So you plant the corn around March...
Ilda: No no, it is now. May or June
Luis: To be picked in September / October...
Ilda: Sometimes in November |
